Selecting the machine or registration certificate to upgrade
Providing updated activation details
Some upgrades require that you manually upgrade the applicable activated items.
Poetic includes a function to search for machines and registration certificates with upgradeable activated items and perform the required activation. If a machine or registration certificate has upgradeable items, then you can also start the upgrade by selecting the upgrade option on the View Certificate page.
As part of the activation process, you may be asked to provide a LAC or LACs as proof that you have purchased the required upgrade validation product. If you are unable to provide the information, then you can send an upgrade request to the publisher.
Also, some activated items may be eligible for more than one upgrade. For example, if you have Acme DocumentWriter Version 1, you may be able to either upgrade to Version 2 or to Version 3.
If no additional validation is required, and the activated item is only eligible for one type of upgrade, then the normal activation process is followed.
When you upgrade an activated item, a new entitlement is created for the upgrade-to product.
On the Activation menu, click Upgrade.
The Search Certificates to Upgrade page displays. See Searching for machines and registration certificates to manage activated items for details on machine searches.
On the View Certificate page for a machine, if any of the items on the machine or registration certificate are upgradeable, then the page toolbar includes an Upgrade option.
On the Overview tab, in the Activation Details section, if a product line includes upgradeable items, then there is an Upgrade link for that product line.
The Upgrade page or Activate page displays, depending on whether multiple upgrade paths apply or the upgradeable items require proof of eligibility.
On the Search Certificates to Upgrade page, in the list of machines, the Upgrade Paths column lists the upgrades that apply to that machine or registration certificate. Click an upgrade path to display the list of items that apply.
To upgrade items on a selected machine orregistration certificate , click the Upgrade link.
If you need to select an upgrade path, or if proof of upgrade eligibility is required, then the Upgrade page of the Upgrade process displays.
Otherwise
If you must select an upgrade path or provide proof of eligibility for the upgrade, then the Upgrade page displays.

If you needed to request the required proof of eligibility, then when you click Next, the Confirm page of the Upgrade process displays. See Confirming and completing the activation for details.
The upgrade cannot be completed until you receive the required upgrade entitlements.
If you were able to provide the required proof of eligibility, then when click Next:
If you are upgrading a machine, then on the Activate page of the Upgrade process, the upgrade configuration determines the products and quantities to activate.
Depending on how the upgrade was configured, you may be able to set the locking IDs for the upgraded items.

After providing the activation information, click Next. If the confirmation step is required, the Confirm page displays. Otherwise, the upgrade is completed and the Complete page displays.See Confirming and completing the activation for details.
