Performing batch upgrades of activated items

About batch upgrades for machines

The Upgrade licenses menu option on the Activation menu is used to upgrade activated items on a machine. See Upgrading activated items for details on this type of upgrade activation.

During this process, you may have the option to upgrade multiple machines at once. For example, if you have Version 1.0 of a product installed on 20 machines, you could use a single batch upgrade activation process to upgrade all 20 machines to Version 2.0.

Selecting the batch upgrade option

To upgrade multiple machines at once:

  1. On the Activation menu, click Upgrade.

The Search Certificates to Upgrade page displays.

  2. Click Batch Upgrade.

The Batch Machine Input form displays.

  3. Providing the list of machines for a batch upgrade works the same as for regular batch activation. See Performing batch activation for details on how to provide the list of machines.

For a batch upgrade, all of the machines must:

    • Be existing machines. You cannot create new machines during a batch upgrade.
    • Have the same upgradeable activated items installed. You must perform the same upgrade on all of the machines.
  4. After selecting the machines, click Continue.

If you need to select an upgrade path, or if proof of upgrade eligibility is required, then the Upgrade page of the Upgrade process displays.

Otherwise, the Activate page of the Upgrade process displays.

Completing the upgrade information

If you must select an upgrade path or provide proof of eligibility for the upgrade, then the Upgrade page displays.

See Providing upgrade information for details.

If you needed to request the required proof of eligibility, then when you click Next, the Confirm page of the Upgrade process displays. See Confirming and completing the activation for details.

The upgrade cannot be completed until you receive the required upgrade entitlements.

If you were able to provide the required proof of eligibility, or if the selected path did not require proof of eligibility, then when click Next, the Activate page of the Upgrade process displays to continue the upgrade.

Providing updated activation details

On the Activate page of the Upgrade process, the upgrade configuration determines the products and quantities to upgrade. All of the machines you selected will be upgraded.

After providing the activation information, click Next to display the Configure page of the upgrade process. This is the same page used for batch activation. See Performing batch activation for details.
