Selecting the machine to move the activated items to
It may sometimes be necessary to move activated items to a different machine. For example, you may want to reduce the load on a machine by moving some activated items to a different machine. Or you may need to move the entire contents of a machine if a hard drive breaks down.
The rehost function allows you to move some or all of the activated items to a different machine.
Note that you cannot rehost items from or to registration certificates, only machines.
On the Activation menu, click Rehost.
The Search Certificates to Rehost page displays to allow you to select the machine to move the activated items from. See Searching for machines to manage activated items for details. The page also includes a Batch Rehost link to allow you to move items from multiple machines. See Moving activated items from multiple machines.
In the search results, click the Rehost link for the machine for which to regenerate keys.
The Search Machines form displays to select the machine to move the activated items to.
The Options list in the View Certificate page toolbar includes a Rehost option.
Selecting this option displays the Search Machines form to select the machine to move the activated items to.
On the Activation tab of the View Entitlement page, the Options list for each activation includes a Rehost option.
Selecting this option displays the Search Machines form to select the machine to move the activated items to.
The Search Machines form displays the current list of machines belonging to the same registered company.
You can also use the search criteria to filter the list of machines.
To select an existing machine to move the activated items to, click the Select link for that machine.
The Details page of the Rehost process displays.
To move the activated quantities to a new machine:
The Add Machine form displays.
If you can have Poetic generate the name for you, then a Suggest Name link displays next to the field. Click the link to populate the field with the name.

The Details page of the Rehost process allows to provide the details concerning the rehost, including:
The Target Machine Information section contains the current activation information (such as locking IDs, platform, etc.) for the activated items.
Depending on the configuration, you may be able to make changes to this information.
Note that for termed or emergency keys, you cannot change the expiration date during the rehost process.
Below the machine information is the list of activated items that can be rehosted.
In the Qty field for each item, type the quantity to rehost. The value must be less than or equal to the value in the Installed column.
If you leave a field blank, it is the same as entering 0. The entire quantity for that activated entitlement will remain on the original machine.
To rehost the entire quantity for all of the activated items, click the Rehost All link in the toolbar.
To clear all of the Qty fields, click the Clear All toolbar link.
Some products require you select the specific instance from among a set of options. Products may have either one or two available parameters for selecting the specific product to activate.
For example, a product may be available in different versions and for different platforms. When you activate an entitlement for that product, you must select the specific version and platform.
The Details page lists the currently selected options for these types of products. Each selected option can have a More Options link.
When you rehost, you can change the selected options to install a different version on the new machine.
For example, if you originally installed a quantity of 4 for Version 1.0 of Platform A, and want to move a quantity of 2 to a new machine, you can change your options so that the quantity on the new machine is for Version 2.0 of Platform B.
You can also replace one option with multiple options. So if you installed a quantity of 4 for Version 1.0 of Platform A, and want to move a quantity of 2 to the new machine, you could change the options to install 1 seat of Version 1.0 of Platform A, and 1 seat of Version 2.0 of Platform B.
To rehost part or all the current version, set the quantity in the Qty field.
To change the selected version that is activated on the new machine:
The Select Options form displays, listing the currently options for the selected item.
To add additional options, click Add more lines.
The Details page is updated to show the versions and quantities that will be activated on the new machine.
After providing the quantities to rehost, click Next.
On the Confirm page, if required, check the check box to accept the legal terms and conditions for the rehost.
The Confirm page also includes fields for sending the updated certificates.

You may also provide notes concerning the rehost. Having notes for a transaction helps maintain the history of the activated items.
To complete the rehost, click Finish.

The first section contains information about the rehost-from machine, and the second section contains information about the rehost-to machine.
Each section may include a list of the keys that were updated on the machine.
