Overview of the emergency keys process

Generating emergency keys combines the entitlement creation and activation processes. The process for generating emergency keys includes:

  1. Selecting the entitlement parties.
  2. Selecting the entitlement products, and answering any survey questions required for entitlement creation.
  3. Providing any additional entitlement properties, including custom properties, LAC, and target tag.
  4. If the products require machine activation, selecting the activation machine.
  5. Providing any required activation details.
  6. Confirming the activation.

Starting the emergency keys process

To start the process of generating emergency keys, on the Activation menu, click Emergency keys.

Selecting the entitlement parties

In the Entitlement Parties section, select the entitlement parties. If you type in the company names, click Refresh Party Information to validate the information and display the full company names and addresses.

Sold-to company In the Sold-to company field, type the name of the sold-to company. You can also click the find icon to search for and select the company.

The sold-to company defaults to your company.

If you belong to an end customer, this field does not display.

Dealer company In the Dealer company field, type the name of the dealer company for the entitlements. The dealer is optional. You can also click the find icon to search for and select the company.

If you belong to an end customer, this field does not display.

End customer In the End customer field, type the name of the end customer for the entitlement. You can also click the find icon to search for and select the end customer.

If you belong to an end customer, then this is set to your company and cannot be changed.

Registered owner The registered owner defaults to the primary contact for the end customer.

To select a different registered owner, click Change Registered Owner. This user also will be the registered user for the activation.

Selecting the program, contract, and group for the entitlements

Program From the Program dropdown, select the program under which to create the entitlements.
Contract # From the Contract # dropdown, select the contract under which to create the entitlements. The contract must belong to the selected program.
Group Select the group to assign the entitlements to. Depending on the number of available groups, you either:
  • Select the group from the Group dropdown
  • Click the find icon next to the Group field to search for and select the group

To create a new group to assign the entitlements to, click Add Group. To edit the selected group, click Edit Group.

Selecting the entitlement products

About the product list

In the Product and Entitlement Details section, the product list allows you to select the products to include in the emergency key activation.

Entering product numbers

In the Product field, enter a product number for which you want to generate emergency keys.

After typing product numbers, to refresh the product list to validate the products and show the product details, click Refresh.

Searching for and selecting products

To search for and select a product, click Find. The product search is restricted to products that support evaluation activation.

Adding lines to the list

To add more lines to the list, click Add lines.

Providing answers for entitlement creation survey questions

If a product is configured with survey questions to be answered during entitlement generation, then a Configure link is displayed for that product.

Click Configure to display an Additional Information tab below the row. The Additional Information tab contains the survey questions.

You must provide answers to required survey questions.

Removing products from the list

To remove a line from the list, click the Remove link for that line.

Providing additional entitlement properties

After selecting the entitlement products, provide the following entitlement information:

LAC In the LAC field, type the LAC to assign to the entitlements.
Target tag In the Target tag field, type the target tag for the entitlements.
Custom properties Provide any other entitlement information required by the publisher.

Configuring the activation

Determining the required activation configuration

After setting up the entitlement details, click Next.

If the products only require registration, and a default quantity for activation has been configured, then the Confirm page is displayed. If you need to provide a quantity, then the Activate page is displayed.

If the products require machine activation, then the Search Machines form is displayed.

Selecting the activation machine

You use the Search Machines form to select the machine. . For details on searching for and selecting an activation machine, see Selecting the activation machine.

When you select a machine, the Activate page of the Get Emergency Keys process displays.

Providing activation details

On the Activate page, you provide the activation details for the emergency keys. See Providing activation details for more information. Note that for emergency keys:

After providing the activation details, click Next to display the Confirm page of the Get Emergency Keys process.

Confirming and completing the activation

This is the same confirmation step as for regular activation. See Confirming and completing the activation for details.
