About channel transfers

Poetic allows channel partners to transfer unassigned entitlements to the next level in the channel structure. For example, if a distributor purchases an entitlement with a quantity of 100, if they sell 30 licenses to a reseller or end company, they can use the channel transfer function to transfer a quantity of 30 to the new company. Entitlements with an end customer cannot be transferred.

You also cannot transfer entitlements that are child entitlements of a bundle entitlement.

When you use the channel transfer to transfer a quantity from an entitlement:

Selecting the entitlements to transfer

To search for and select the entitlements to transfer:

  1. On the Asset menu, click Channel transfer.

The Search Entitlements for Channel Transfer page displays.

  2. Provide criteria to search for the entitlements for the channel transfer, then click Search Entitlements. You must at least provide the name of the sold-to company on the entitlements. You can only transfer entitlements that have the same sold-to.

The unassigned entitlements matching your search criteria and that are available display.

  3. Check the check box next to each entitlement you want to transfer, then click Transfer checked entitlements. To transfer all of the entitlements in the search results, click Transfer all results.

The Detail page of the Channel Transfer process displays

    .

The Detail page is divided into tabs:

Specifying the channel transfer party information

On the Transfer-to Parties tab:

Transfer-to company In the Transfer-to company field, specify the name of the transfer-to company. The selected company will be the sold-to company on the entitlements.

To select the company, either type the company name or click the find icon.

If you type the company name manually, then to update the page with the company address, click the Refresh Party Information link.

Dealer company To set a dealer for the transferred entitlements, in the Dealer company field, specify the name of the dealer company.

To select the company, either type the company name or click the find icon.

Registered owner If the transfer-to company is an end customer, then when the page is refreshed, the Registered owner field displays and is populated with the primary contact for the transfer-to company.

To select a different registered owner from within the end customer, click the Change Registered Owner link.

Configuring the LACs for the transferred entitlements

Determining how many LACs to generate

On the LACs tab, the Existing LAC(s) field lists the LACs used by the selected entitlements.

To set how LACs will be generated for the transferred entitlements, select an option from the LAC generation rule dropdown. The options are:

Keep existing LACs To keep the existing LACs for the entitlements, select Keep existing LACs.

If you select this option, Poetic generates a single new entitlement for each transferred entitlement, with a quantity equal to the transferred quantity. The new entitlements have the same LACs as the original entitlements.

No LACs required To not generate any LACs for the new entitlements, select No LACs required.

If you select this option, Poetic generates a single new entitlement for each transferred entitlement, with a quantity equal to the transferred quantity. The new entitlements do not have LACs.

Enter 1 LAC for this transaction To assign a specific LAC to all of the new entitlements, select Enter 1 LAC for this transaction.

In the New LAC field, type the new LAC.

If you select this option, Poetic generates a single new entitlement for each transferred entitlement, with a quantity equal to the transferred quantity. The new entitlements have the LAC specified in the New LAC field.

Enter a LAC for each entitlement To assign a specific LAC to each transferred entitlement, select Enter a LAC for each entitlement.

On the Entitlements tab, for each entitlement, type the LAC in the New LAC column.

If you select this option, Poetic generates a single new entitlement for each transferred entitlement, with a quantity equal to the transferred quantity. Poetic uses the LACs you provide.

Generate 1 LAC for this transaction To have Poetic generate a single LAC for all of the entitlements, select Generate 1 LAC for this transaction.

If you select this option, Poetic generates a single new entitlement for each transferred entitlement, with a quantity equal to the transferred quantity. Each new entitlement has the same generated LAC.

If you select this option, each entitlement must use the same LAC generation method.

Generate 1 LAC for each entitlement To have Poetic generate a different LAC for each transferred entitlement, select Generate 1 LAC for each entitlement.

If you select this option, Poetic generates a single new entitlement for each transferred entitlement, with a quantity equal to the transferred quantity. Each new entitlement has a different generated LAC.

If you select this option, each entitlement must use the same LAC generation method.

Generate 1 LAC for each seat To have Poetic generate a unique LAC for every transferred seat, select Generate 1 LAC for each seat.

If you select this option, for each transferred entitlement, Poetic generates a number of new entitlements equal to the transferred quantity. Each entitlement has a quantity of 1, and each entitlement has a different generated LAC.

If you select this option, each entitlement must use the same LAC generation method.

Emailing the LACs in a file

If new LACs are generated for the transferred entitlements, you can have Poetic send the LACs to selected email addresses.

Send to registered owner To email the LACs to the registered owner, check the Send to registered owner check box.
Additional recipients To send the LACs to other recipients, type their email addresses in the Additional recipients field. Use commas to separate multiple addresses.

Removing the end company from entitlement party

Removing the end company from an available entitlement

For available entitlement, an admin user will need to perform a channel transfer. The entitlement must be fully available, meaning no quantity has been activated in order to perform a channel transfer.

At the end of this process, Poetic removes the end company from the entitlement and set status to unassigned.

Assigning an available entitlement to another end company

Assign an available entitlement to another end company

Pre-condition: the entitlement has not been activated, an Ops Tier user can perform a Channel Transfer to assign it to the correct company & location.

Changing duration on an available entitlement during an entitlement split

Ops Tier users can change the duration on an available entitlement during an entitlement split.

Below are a list of sample licenses to demonstrate this function.

Entitlement ID Type Available Qty Duration UOM Target Tag
1001 Temp 50 30 Days Munich
2002 Temp 50 45 Days Frankfurt
3003 Temp 50 24 Hours Berlin
4004 Perm 100 Hamburg

See resulting licenses:

Entitlement ID Type Available Qty Duration UOM Target Tag
1001a Temp 1 10 Days Cologne
2002a Temp 1 10 Days Cologne
4004a Perm 1 Cologne

Exceptions:

Poetic returns an error message when attempting to set the new duration to a value greater than duration on parent entitlement.

Example The duration on the to-be child entitlement(s) cannot be greater than parent entitlement(s) with lowest duration.

Poetic returns with an error message when the transfer of entitlement is with mixed UOM. This is not supported.

The Administrator will have to conduct 2 entitlement transfers, one for each UOM to achieve this change.

Removing a target tag on available entitlement during an entitlement split

Administrator can also set the target tag to blank. Following the same steps above you would result with the following entitlements

See resulting licenses when setting target tag to blank:

Entitlement ID Type Available Qty Duration UOM Target Tag
1001a Temp 1 10 Days
2002a Temp 1 10 Days
4004a Perm 1
