Configuring the transfer

Selecting the transfer rule

On the Configure page, from the Transfer rule dropdown, select the rule for the transfer. The transfer rule determines whether to transfer only the available quantity or the entire entitlement.

If you are transferring the entitlements to a different group within the same company, then the options are:

Transfer available quantity only Only the available quantity is transferred. If an entitlement is partially activated, then the entitlement is split.

The available quantity is moved to a new entitlement or entitlements, depending on the LAC rule. The new entitlements are assigned to the selected group.

The activated quantity remains in the original entitlement.

For example, entitlement ENT1 belonging to Group1 has a total quantity of 10 and an available quantity of 4.

The available quantity is transferred to Group2.

ENT1 is split. After the transfer, ENT1 has a total quantity of 6 and an available quantity of 0.

A new entitlement ENT2 belongs to Group2. It has a total quantity and available quantity of 4.

Transfer entire quantity The entire entitlement quantity is moved to a new entitlement or entitlements, depending on the LAC rule.

The activated items are also moved to the new group.

For example, entitlement ENT1 belonging to Group 1 has a total quantity of 15 and an available quantity of 5. ENT1 is activated on Machine1.

The available quantity is transferred to Group2.

ENT is disabled, and ENT2 is created with the entire quantity from ENT1. ENT2 is assigned to Group2.

On Machine1, the activated items for ENT1 are updated to belong to ENT2. The group for those activated items is updated to Group2.

If you are transferring the entitlements to a different company, then the options are:

Transfer available quantity only Only the available quantity is transferred. If an entitlement is partially activated, then the entitlement is split.

The available quantity is moved to a new entitlement or entitlements, depending on the LAC rule. The new entitlements are assigned to the selected company and group.

The activated quantity remains in the original entitlement.

For example, entitlement ENT1 belonging to Superco, Inc. has a total quantity of 10 and an available quantity of 4.

The available quantity is transferred to UltraTech, Inc.

ENT2, assigned to UltraTech, Inc. is created with a quantity of 4.

For ENT1, the total quantity is reduced to 6.

Transfer entire quantity - split machines The entire entitlement quantity is moved to a new entitlement or entitlements, depending on the LAC rule.

If a machine with activated items for the selected entitlements also has activated items for other entitlements, then Poetic "splits" the machine or registration certificate.

This means that Poetic creates a new machine or registration certificate with the same name for the selected company. Poetic needs to make sure that the new company does not already have a machine or registration certificate with that name.

The new machine or registration certificate has the activated items for the selected entitlements. The other activated items remain on the original machine or registration certificate.

For example, ENT1 belongs to Superco, Inc. It has a total quantity of 15. A quantity of 5 is installed on Machine1. A quantity of 2 is installed on Machine2.

ENT1 is transferred to UltraTech, Inc. As a result of the transfer:

  • ENT1 is disabled
  • The activated items for ENT1 on Machine1 and Machine2 are disabled.
  • A new ENT2 is created that is assigned to UltraTech.
  • A new Machine1 is created for UltraTech, Inc. It contains one activated item (quantity 5) for ENT2.
  • A new Machine2 is created for UltraTEch, Inc. It contains one activated items (quantity 2) for ENT2.
Transfer entire quantity - do not split machines The entire entitlement quantity is moved to a new entitlement or entitlements, depending on the LAC rule.

If the entitlements are activated, then Poetic transfers the entire machine or registration certificate to the new company, including activated items for entitlements that were not included in the original list of entitlements to transfer.

Those entitlements are split.

For example, ENT1 belongs to Superco, Inc. it has a total quantity of 14. A quantity of 6 is installed on Machine1. A quantity of 5 is installed on Machine 2.

Machine1 also has an activated item (quantity 3) for ENT2. ENT2 has a total quantity of 10.

Machine2 also has an activated item (quantity 5) for ENT3. ENT3 has a total quantity of 12.

ENT1 is transferred to UltraTech, Inc. As a result of the transfer:

  • ENT1 is disabled
  • A new ENT4 is created for UltraTech, Inc. with the entire quantity from ENT1.
  • Machine1 is transferred to UltraTech, Inc.
  • Machine2 is transferred to UltraTech, Inc.
  • The total quantity for ENT2 is reduced by 3. A new ENT5 is created for UltraTech, Inc. ENT5 has a total quantity and activated quantity of 3.
  • The total quantity for ENT3 is reduced by 5. A new ENT6 is created for UltraTech, Inc. ENT6 has a total quantity and activated quantity of 5.

Generating LACs for entitlements created by the transfer

When you transfer entitlements, you can also generate new LACs for any new entitlements that are created as a result of the transfer. From the LAC generation rule dropdown, select an option to determine whether to generate new LACs and the number of LACs to generate.

No LAC generation required Indicates to not generate new LACs for the new entitlements. The new entitlements have the same LAC as the transferred entitlements.
No LAC generation required Indicates not to generate new LACs for the new entitlements. The new entitlements have the same LAC as the transferred entitlements.

However, with this option, if any LAC would be assigned to entitlements belonging to different companies, then an error is returned.

Enter 1 LAC for this transaction When you select this option, a LAC field displays for you to provide a LAC.

This LAC is assigned to all of the new entitlements created as a result of the transfer.

Generate 1 LAC for this transaction For each entitlement, one new entitlement is created for the transferred quantity.

Poetic generates a single LAC and assigns that LAC to all of the new entitlements.

This option requires that all of the entitlement products use the same method to generate LACs.

Generate 1 LAC for each entitlement For each entitlement, one new entitlement is created for the transferred quantity.

Poetic generates a different LAC for each of the new entitlements.

Generate 1 LAC for each seat For each entitlement, Poetic creates a number of entitlements equal to the transferred quantity. Each entitlement has a quantity of 1. For example, if a quantity of 2 is transferred from an entitlement, Poetic creates 2 new entitlements.

Poetic generates a different LAC for each of the new entitlements.
