Adding and removing validation products
Assigning upgrade-from products to validation products
The Validation tab displays if the upgrade type is Paid upgrade.
For paid upgrades, when users perform an upgrade activation, they must provide proof, in the form of a LAC or LACs, that they have purchased the required upgrade product for the upgrade.
For example, to upgrade from Acme DocumentWriter Version 1 to Acme DocumentWriter Version 2, users may be required to purchase the Acme DocumentWriter Upgrade.
On the Validation tab, you set up a list of relevant upgrade validation products. For each validation product, you assign a list of upgrade-from products that require the user to purchase the validation product.
To add new validation products to the list, click Add validation product.
On the Search Products form, in the search results, check the check box next to each validation product you want to add, then click Select checked products.
If your instance uses product security categories (Registry IS_PRODUCT_SECURITY_CATEGORY_SUPPORTED is true), then make sure the validation product either uses the same security category as the upgrade-from products, or does not have a security category. Customers trying to upgrade need to be able to see the validation entitlements. Also, you can only select products that belong to a product security that you can view.
To add a blank line for a validation product, click the Add blank line link on the validation product toolbar.
The blank line includes a field to enter a validation product number, or you can click Find to search for and select the validation product.
If you type in the product number, to validate the product and replace the field with the product summary, click Refresh on the validation product toolbar.
To change the selected validation product, click the Find link. Use the Search Products form to search for and select the product.
Each validation product includes the rules for determining the required quantity.
From the Qty Validation Rules dropdown, select how to validate the quantity for this product against the quantities for the upgrade-from products.
Fixed Qty | The quantity for the validation product must be equal to the value in the Qty column.
For example, users who are upgrading any quantity of AcmeDocumentWriter 1.0 must purchase 1 seat of Acme DocumentWriter Upgrade. |
Exact Match | The quantity on the validation product must exactly match the quantity for the upgrade-from product.
For example, users who are upgrading 10 seats of Acme DocumentWriter 1.0 must purchase 10 seats of Acme DocumentWriter Upgrade. |
To remove a validation product, click the Remove link. Both the validation product and the assigned upgrade-from products are removed.
To add an upgrade-from product to a validation product, click Add upgrade-from product.
On the Search Products form, in the search results, check the check box next to each product you want to add, then click Select checked products.
Note that if product security categories are used (Registry IS_PRODUCT_SECURITY_CATEGORY_SUPPORTED is true), you can only select products that belong to a security category that you can view.
