Assigning security settings to security roles

About Poetic security settings

The Poetic functionality available to each security role is determined by the security settings assigned to that role. Each security setting provides access to a specific Poetic function. For example, the CAN_MAINTAIN_OWN_COMPANY setting determines whether a user can edit the company information for their own company.

The default settings for each security role are based on their security level. You can, however, assign any security setting to any security role.

Displaying the Filter Security Settings page

To display the list of security setting categories:

  1. On the Administration menu, click Site maintenance.
  2. On the Site Maintenance menu, click the Access Control tab.
  3. On the Access Control tab, click Security settings.

The Security settings option is also available on the Frequent tab of the Site Maintenance menu.

Filtering security settings

Some of the security setting categories contain a large number of settings. You can filter these settings to narrow the lists to exactly the settings you want to set. For example, you may want to only view new settings from the latest Poetic upgrade.

To filter settings based on text in the setting name or description, enter the text in the Name/description field. For example, to search for all settings with the word "entitlement" anywhere in the name or description, type %entitlement%.

To filter settings based on when they were added to Poetic:

  1. From the Introduced dropdown, select Since, Equal, or Before to determine whether to include settings introduced since the specified build number, in the specified build number, or before the specified build number.
  2. In the Build# field, type the build number.

For example, to filter the settings to include only those settings added in build 1555:

After providing the criteria, click Filter Security Settings.

For each security category:

Displaying the filtered list of security settings

After you filter the security settings, to display the filtered list of security settings in a category, click the Edit link for the category.

The Configure Security Settings page displays, listing the filtered settings within the selected category.

The page includes a column for each security role, with a check box that indicates whether the security setting is assigned to that role. If the setting is locked, then the check boxes are disabled. A security setting usually is locked because it is associated with functionality that is not enabled for your instance of Poetic.

Filtering the security roles

Poetic allows you to filter the list of security security roles to include only those roles assigned to a specific security level. This allows you to quickly add and remove security settings for all of the security roles for that level.

To filter the list to display the security roles assigned a specific security level:

  1. From the Security level dropdown, select the security level.
  2. Click Filter Roles.

The list is updated to show only the security roles assigned to the selected security level.
